Why Preserve this post?
Though at their height there were more than 1500 of these posts in the UK
spaced about 10KM apart in 1968 this number was cut down to around 700 and
in 1991 all posts were closed.
Over time many posts have been lost to flooding, been filled in,
vandalised, burnt out or development has overtaken them.
I have always been fascinated by the structure in place in the UK during
the cold war threat and wanted to have an ROC bunker. This one came up for
sale and it was located in a charming place so I bought it not really
knowing what I wanted to do with it.
The idea of restoring it to a representative state of when it was in use
was appealing and as more and more post seem to be disappearing it seemed a
good idea to preserve one.
There are others that have been preserved or are being preserved but only
a handful.
Will I be buying another? Possibly...
